Dr. Maureen Dorsey is the hospital owner and director. A UC Davis graduate, she began her career in veterinary medicine as a kennel assistant, became a groomer, completed an associates degree in animal health technology, and worked as a virology technician for the Center of Reproduction of Endangered Species at the San Diego Zoo before going to UC Davis for a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.

While attending the college, she also assisted in research of Feline Immunodeficiency Virus in Niels Pederson's laboratory. Dr. Dorsey was an associate veterinarian in the Bay Area before purchasing Oakland Veterinary Hospital in 1995. Dr. Cecilie Hart is also a UC Davis graduate and an avid soccer player and fan. A native to the San Francisco Bay Area, she volunteered in several veterinary practices before attending UC Davis for a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.

She has been affiliated with Oakland Veterinary Hospital since 1992. Our support staff- Jana, Lupe, Emma, Megan and Ethan do a great job assisting the doctors in patient care and provide compassionate, attentive service to the humans!

Flea Facts
Report
Fleas have the same life cycle as butterflies, if we understand that we can help keep our pets flea free as much as possible.
Flea eggs are found wherever animals with adult fleas go.
Eggs can be sterilized with certain products that are called insect growth regulators and these are found in area treatment sprays as well as some spot-on products that are applied to the skin of cats and dogs.
Eggs develop into larvae (like the catepiller stage of the butterfly) and can move a small amount of distance, eating debris and interesting things like tapeworm eggs.
Products
Report
We dispense Sentinel heartworm prevention medication to our dog patients to prevent heartworms (which are transmitted by mosquito bites to dogs) and to aid in reducing flea infestations because Sentinel contains luefeneron which interferes with flea egg and larval development.
Dogs should be tested before starting this medication if they have not been on a heartworm preventative previously.
We carry Hills Prescription Diet foods which come in various formulations to aid in disease treatment and prevention.
