In addition to owning and operating the Walton County Animal Clinic since 1985, he was also one of the founders of the Okaloosa-Walton Veterinary Emergency Clinic where he served as president of the Board for many years.
Dr. Blackwood was the first veterinarian employed by the Walton County Animal Shelter, which was established in 2009.
Walton County Animal Clinic is a full-service small animal veterinary clinic.
Our facility includes a closely monitored hospitalization area, pharmacy, surgery suite, in-house radiology, in-house laboratory, and an outdoor yard for walking visiting dogs.
We offer a complete range of veterinary services, including vaccinations, routine, major, and emergency medical, surgical, and dental services.
Our family-oriented team is here to help you care for your pet during every stage of life to keep them healthy and happy.
Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet.
Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability.
Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open.
If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us or come to the hospital immediately.
If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency.
We have a veterinarian and personnel on duty 5 days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent care your pet has.
The single most important thing you can provide your pet besides keeping him/her protected against contagious disease is to provide proper dental care.
Pain, bad breath and tooth loss are all signs of periodontal disease.
The bacteria found in dental plaque and tartar from chronic infections can spread to the heart, liver, lungs and kidneys.
This bacteria causes damages to your pet's internal organs and can severely affect your pet's life.
According to a study at the University of Minnesota - 85% of dogs and cats had evidence of periodontal disease by 3 years of age.
Once a pet (dog or cat, puppy or kitten) is "enrolled" any vaccines (see list below) it receives are free for its lifetime.
There is a onetime "enrollment" or "membership" fee for your pet's age.
Enrollment/Membership will remain current, as long as the pet is examined by the doctor once a year (every 12 months).
New patients, may be enrolled at the first wellness examination.
Established patients may be enrolled in the program as long as the pet has had a wellness examination by the doctor within in the last year.
