Modoc Veterinary Center's mission is to provide our clients the best value in veterinary service and ensure our patients receive the highest level of comfort and care. Founded in 1947 as a one doctor practice serving the Modoc County area, our mixed animal practice located in Alturas, CA has evolved and expanded into a multi-doctor veterinary hospital.
Our satellite locations in Cedarville and Adin service the extended communities of Surprise Valley, Big Valley, McArthur, and more. Our experienced veterinarians and staff offer a multitude of services, including 24 hour on-call emergency service. Small animals, horses, and livestock compose the variety of patients seen at our veterinary practice.
Clinical services offered are examinations, vaccinations, health screens and in-house laboratory testing as well as state-of-the-art radiograph technology. Routine surgical procedures, extensive dentistry, and certain orthopedic repairs are performed Tuesday through Friday.

Meet the Team

Dr. Ryan DePaul was raised in Surprise Valley, CA on his parents' ranch.
He graduated from Surprise Valley High School in 1997 and attended the University of Nevada, Reno.
While going to school he spent 4 years working for the UNR Experiment Main Station Ranch and worked on numerous research programs including Foothill Abortion Trials.
He graduated the University of Nevada, Reno in 2001.
Dr. DePaul received his DVM degree from Oregon State University in 2005.
Dr. DePaul moved to Alturas, CA and started working for Modoc Veterinary Center in the summer of 2005.
He graduated from Surprise Valley High School in 1997 and attended the University of Nevada, Reno.

Big Valley Veterinary Clinic is located on Hwy 299 in Adin, CA.
A doctor is available on Wednesdays and Thursdays and they are open on Friday mornings to schedule appointments only.
Big Valley Veterinary Clinic offers small and large animal services.
Their hours are Wednesday and Thursday, 8 AM to 4 PM (closed from 12Noon to 1 PM) and Friday from 8 AM to 12 PM.

Each patient has a full medical history taken by our veterinarian, followed by a complete physical exam.

Regular heartworm and parasite prevention is recommended for all pets.
We recommend older pets, greater than 7 years of age, receive semi-annual exams and should have routine geriatric blood panels to screen for early signs of disease.
