The St. Charles Animal Hospital is fully accredited by the AAHA (The American Animal Hospital Association). The AAHA is the only organization that accredits animal hospitals in the U.S. At present, only 11% of the animal hospitals in the US are accredited. AAHA-accredited hospitals adhere to the highest-quality standards available, which helps ensure the best care for your pet.

Consultants regularly inspect our hospital to ensure compliance with AAHA's standards for services and facilities. St. Charles Animal Hospital has been providing quality veterinary services including wellness examinations, vaccinations, diagnostics, surgery, grooming and treatment of illnesses and injuries to companion animals in the southern Maryland area since 1978.

We are proud to have a Board Certified Veterinarian at our hospital to serve you (and three other highly qualified veterinarians as well). At St. Charles Animal Hospital, we understand that your pet is more than just an animal - your pet is a part of your family and we are committed to providing the quality care that they deserve and that you expect.

Surgical Services: Our state-of-the-art surgical suites provide for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures.
As a young child I found a stray dog while playing outside and immediately fell in love with her!
I brought her home and much to my surprise, my parents let me keep her.
I must have been about seven years old at the time.
Soon thereafter, Taffy decided to eat a sponge and developed a complete obstruction - vomiting was all that she could do.
We took her to our local veterinarian who surgically removed the sponge, but told us that she might not live because she was so weak.
I remember sitting with her day and night so that I could hand-feed her small portions of food - I was not about to let her die.
Join our team of happy faces and plan to enjoy your career as a veterinarian!
We are looking for a new or recent graduate that would like to have a long term relationship with us.
Be prepared to learn new skills and practice high quality medicine and surgery, while potentially expanding your areas of special interest.
Our hospital stresses quality over quantity and consequently we have 30 minute appointment slots so that our doctors can take a thorough history, do a full physical examination, and then present a game plan for treatments.
One of the things that many clients fear the most is anesthesia.
This need not be the case!
As a veterinarian, I have been using various anesthetics for over 47 years.
Over the years I have seen the development of many new drugs and the drugs that we are currently using are so safe that we do not hesitate to anesthetize any pet that needs to have a procedure done.
For those of you that like details, let's go over some specific drugs and anesthetic protocols.
LOCAL ANESTHETICS - These drugs are injected into the body to create a desensitized area of the skin, or sections of a limb.
