Durham Valley Vets was established in 1997 by Dr. David Peterson. Envisioning owning his own practice, Dr. Peterson found the current location at 8398 Easton Rd. Ottsville, PA, which formerly housed a bicycle shop. At the time Dr. Peterson worked at Fort Dodge Animal Health, and worked in the evenings constructing the interior of the clinic. After designing and building rooms for appointments, surgery and hospitalized cats, and designating a kennel area for dogs, Dr. Peterson was ready to open his practice.
Durham Valley Vets began with Dr. Peterson seeing evening appointments while he continued working at Fort Dodge. Once he had gained enough clients and built the practice, he was able to open full time. Over the years, the practice continues to evolve, especially with the addition of new equipment and technology that aids us in serving our clients.
What started as a dream for Dr. Peterson has now grown into a successful small animal practice employing three doctors with a great support staff.

Regular physical exams are an important aid in potential early detection of an impending issue.
Keeping a record of weight, body score and overall general health can help the doctor to catch changes that may need to be addressed early.
During this time the doctor can answer questions you may have regarding your pet's health and care.
If your pet has a chronic condition, such as diabetes, Cushing's disease, seizure disorder, or thyroid disease, the doctor can also aid in creating a treatment plan to help manage the condition.

Ozzie
Report
Ozzie has been a resident of our office since 2010.
He came in as a patient with a suspected urinary obstruction, but it was ultimately determined that he had a lower spinal injury which affected his ability to urinate on his own.
Due to the injury, his tail needed to be amputated, which gives him the bob-tail look that so many of our clients notice and admire.
Unfortunately, Ozzie's injury also prevented us from being able to express and empty his bladder without sedation.
Luckily, Ozzie adjusted incredibly well to a daily routine of gas sedation to have his bladder emptied.

House Calls
Report
We offer this service for clients who prefer the convenience of having a doctor come to their home.
Clients typically request this option if they have multiple pets that need to be vaccinated, or difficulty getting their pet(s) to the clinic.
Some pets become very stressed by riding in the car or by being in a strange environment.
A house call can be beneficial in eliminating the travel related stress.
And as much as we love visits from litters of puppies or kittens, a house call can be helpful for a breeder that doesn't want the hassle of transporting the litter.

Lab Work & Testing
Report
In our office, we are able to perform two different blood tests: the 4DX for dogs and the Feline Combo for cats.
Each of these tests requires a small amount of blood and provides us with results in about ten minutes.
Just like with people, some pets may experience slight discomfort while blood is being drawn, but the procedure is harmless.
The 4DX tests for Heartworm as well as three tick-borne diseases: Lyme, Ehrlichiosis, and Anaplasmosis in dogs.
The Feline Combo tests for two retro-viruses: Feline leukemia (Felv) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) in cats.
