He is a graduate of Charles Henderson High School and Troy State University where he earned a Bachelor's of Science degree with a double major in Biology and Chemistry and a minor in Physics in three years. He then attended Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine and received his doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1998.
While attending Auburn he was the recipient of numerous awards including a Phi Zeta scholar award, the Meade Scholarship recipient and the Gentle Doctor Award which is awarded by votes from his professors and peers.
