Services
Preventive Care Exam
Report
A thorough physical exam is the foundation of your pet's health care.
It is critical to the care of all animals, from the very young to "senior citizens."
Because young animals change rapidly, we examine them thoroughly at each of their puppy or kitten visits.
We recommend annual physicals for mature pets and semi-annual physicals for senior pets.
Don't forget; pets age faster than people do!
One dog year is approximately equal to seven human years.
Our veterinarians devote a good deal of time to your pet's preventive care exam.
Laboratory
Report
One of the most important aspects of any preventive medicine regimen is the ability to analyze how well your pet's internal organs and processes are functioning.
Laboratory testing allows us an opportunity to gain a view inside your pet's body in order to assess overall systemic health without the need for invasive and expensive procedures.
This is why we maintain a full in-house laboratory.
Generally, we can have results within 15 minutes for the following tests: Fecal test, heartworm test, complete blood count, blood chemistry, blood clotting, microscopic examination of blood, electrolytes and urinalysis.
Vaccinations
Report
Preventing illness is one of the building blocks of your pet's overall health.
Recent advances in veterinary immunology have made it easy to protect your pet from most major infectious diseases.
Many immunizations and preventive treatments are available today that did not exist a decade ago.
While vaccines are important, we realize that not every pet requires the same vaccinations.
That's why we tailor vaccine schedules based on the individual needs and unique lifestyles of each pet.
Some vaccines are considered core vaccines and should be administered to all pets, whereas other vaccines are optional and may be recommended for pets based on a variety of factors, such as their risk for exposure to disease.
Surgery
Report
Southport Animal Hospital maintains a fully-equipped surgical suite with state-of-the-art anesthetic monitoring equipment to ensure optimal anesthetic safety for your pet.
To stay current on the latest advances in medical technology and protocols, our doctors and staff regularly attend continuing education courses and lectures.
With that said, when it is in your pet's best interest to see a dedicated specialist, we have long-standing relationships with local experts.
Please fast your pet prior to any surgical or anesthetic procedure - water is okay but no food after midnight the night before surgery.
Microchipping
Report
Did you know that every year thousands of pets are put to sleep in animal shelters and humane societies because their owners cannot be identified?
Don't let your pet become one of these statistics!
Many pets (especially indoor pets) don't wear collars or tags.
Even if your pet wears a collar and identification tag, collars can break off and tags can become damaged and unreadable, so these forms of identification may not be enough to ensure your pet's safe return.
Your pet needs a form of identification that is reliable and can't get lost, stolen, or damaged.
