Boulevard Animal Hospital
To provide quality veterinary care to the Athens community throughout the life of your pet. Our services and facilities are designed to assist in routine preventive care for young, healthy animals; early detection and treatment of disease as your companion animal ages; and medical and surgical care as necessary during his or her lifetime.
Services
Boulevard Animal Hospital, is dedicated to preventative and illness vet care for our cats and dogs.
Our Athens Vets understand that you, the owner, are an integral part of their pet's care and we are committed to giving our clients the education, training, and support they need to make informed decisions in caring for their pets.
Dr. Jennifer Howard was born in Ajax Ontario, a rural town near Toronto, in Canada.
In 1995, she graduated from Bishops University in Lennoxville Quebec, and in 2003 she graduated from the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine.
As a child, her devotion to animals developed through the love of her family pets, and she often tried to sneak stray dogs into the house for love and TLC without her parents noticing!
She had dogs, birds, rabbits, and fish as a young child, and by the age of 10 started working towards saving for her first horse by selling lemonade on the curb in front of her house.
Wellness exams are an important part of keeping our pets healthy and happy.
During this time, veterinarians and owners have an opportunity to discuss any observed changes in the animals health, body condition and behaviors that may have arisen since the last exam.
This discussion helps our veterinarians understand new challenges that the patient may be facing.
After going over this recent history with the owner, a thorough exam and assessment of the patient will be performed.
This includes documenting changes in weight, listening to the heart and lungs, checking the eyes, ears, and skin for signs of problems, palpating the abdomen, checking the lymph nodes, and observing the patient for signs of ongoing disease.
Understanding the vaccine requirements of individual animals takes time and experience.
Vaccines must be given in a very specific way in order to be effective in protecting our animals from disease, often at differing times in an animals life.
We follow the American Veterinary Medical Association's guidelines for vaccinating dogs and cats at various life stages.
Some vaccinations are considered to be critical, or core vaccines, while others are based upon the lifestyle and medical history of the individual animal.
Despite our best efforts, sometimes pets get sick!
That is when we schedule a problem visit for your pet.
Illness can happen due to a variety of causes.
Some of the most common reasons for a problem visit include allergies or skin problems, ear infections, dental problems (often first noticed as bad breath by the owner!), injuries, infections, or recent changes in behavior or body condition.
These examinations are different from wellness exams.
During this time, our team really focuses on the recent changes and problems that the pet is experiencing.
