Our Story

Highlands Animal Hospital is the first and oldest veterinary clinic in Highlands County.
Doctor Frank Handley started the practice in the mid-1950's and the initial clinic was located in a home approximately 1/2 mile North of our present location.
Doctor Handley and his family lived in the back of the home and ran the clinic out of the front.
At that time, the practice was primarily large animal and most of the work was done on the farms and ranches in Highlands and surrounding counties.
The current facility was constructed in 1972.

We like to think of ourselves as a family.
Most of our staff have been with us for years, and we consider ourselves to be an integral part of our neighborhood, your neighborhood.
Oh, and the dapper looking fellow on the right - he's Darryl, our clinic mascot.
Darryl likes to greet our friends, both old and new, so he'll be waiting to see you as well.
Dr. Young joined the Highlands Animal Hospital practice in 1989 as an associate and assumed ownership in 2000.
He and his family are long-time residents of Highlands County and maintain close ties with the community.
