We, at Canal Veterinary Hospital, have enjoyed serving pets and their families since 1986. Our veterinarians see themselves as privileged caretakers of the mysterious human-animal bond created by God. We believe our pet(s) change our lives for the good; and we love helping them do just that! Dr Deleon, Dr Larsson, and staff want to be your most trusted source of veterinary care in the Central Valley.
To earn your trust, we strive to consistently provide timely, relevant, affordable, and reliable services. We want to take the time to get to know you, your pet(s) and your stories as we develop specific plans to help you best care for your loved one(s). We took our dog Muffin to Canal Veterinary after another vet could not give us a diagnosis on Muffin.
Canal Veterinary gave us a diagnosis within 45 minutes. They immediately started treatment. Within 3 days our dog was home with us and doing amazing. They took care of our pet. They loved on her while she was there. They really care about the animals they take care of.

Services
The idea of Canal Veterinary Hospital began in 1978 when Dr. Richard L. Baker wanted to bring veterinary service to the community of Denair, California.
Four years later, Richard was diagnosed with incurable lung cancer.
Richard's brother, Dr. Gary Baker, came alongside him to help further establish the hospital.
The practice continued to grow throughout the next few years, which led to the grand opening of Canal Veterinary Hospital in 1986.
Dr. Debra Tilson St. Louis (now a mother of 5 residing in Colorado), Dr. Craig Brooks (now the owner of Taylor Veterinary Hospital), and Dr. Deron Larsson were hired throughout the growth of the practice.

Dr. Larsson is a 1987 graduate of U.C. Davis Veterinary School and has been at Canal Veterinary Hospital since 1988.
He has a passion for relationships and strives to build a trust bond with his clients and patients by providing comprehensive, transparent care and advice.
Dr. Larsson's favorite area of veterinary work is internal medicine and he is always studying to keep up to date on the latest research and standards of care.
In 2019, he and Dr. Heather formed a partnership to purchase the practice from the retiring Dr. Baker.

For almost a year now I have been taking my dogs to Canal Vet.
My experience has never been less than excellent!
Whether it be a health exam on our new puppy or the passing of our beloved pet, their compassion and caring for our pets is always most important.
My primary vet is Dr. Larsen, but we have also seen Dr. Heather and both take the time to explain all procedures to us from start to finish.
Their office is clean and the front desk staff always acknowledges who you are when you walk in.
Most importantly, I never have to wait past my appointment time.

The pet food industry has grown exponentially since the market was considered saturated in 1990, capitalizing on the humanization of pets, not on pet-specific nutritional facts.
Periodic fasting and/or giving fewer calories has a greater influence on longevity and livelihood than a particular type of diet or dietary supplement.
These facts suggest that big industry marketing and over-consumption, rather than veterinary nutritional facts, is directing the nutrition of most pets.
Of course, if you feed less, you must be careful that the nutrient and food safety requirements are met or you could create other problems.
