3413 Mt Baker Hwy Bellingham is located on the roundabout at the intersection of Mount Baker Highway and Smith Road, approximately 9 miles east of I-5 exit 255. We are a family owned veterinary clinic and have been providing personalized pet care since 1986. Everyone here takes a great deal of pride in the services we provide for the people and pets of this community.
Besides providing conventional surgical and medical treatment for dogs and cats, we also offer alternative treatments including acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, food therapy, massage, and therapeutic laser. We also have a full service boarding facility for dogs and cats, and if you are in need of high quality pet food or pet supplies, we have that too.
Beyond providing pet care, we are supporters of a number of community organizations, and in 2011 installed an array of 45 solar panels, which provides most of our electricity. Just as we take seriously our responsibility for the health of your pet, we also take seriously our role as residents of this community, and of this planet.

Services
Surgery
Report
Mountain Veterinary Hospital is capable of performing many different types of surgical procedures, from simple outpatient procedures to complicated orthopedic surgeries.
We realize that your pet is a beloved member of your family, and that any time your pet requires surgery, it is stressful not only for your pet, but also for your family.
For these reasons, we try to avoid keeping pets overnight whenever possible.
We are able to do this by forgoing general anesthesia on many surgical procedures, instead utilizing light sedation in combination with local anesthesia (making the area numb).

Dental Care
Report
One of the most common, and yet one of the most overlooked problems affecting pets is dental disease.
Since pets do not brush or floss their teeth, they are much more prone to dental disease than humans are.
Many pets with dental problems may be in a lot of pain, but since pets are not able to directly communicate with humans, this pain may go unrecognized.
Check your pet's teeth and gums.
If there is any tartar on the teeth, redness of the gums, or if there is an odor, your pet may have dental disease and should be examined.

Alternative Medicine
Report
At Mountain Veterinary Hospital we practice Holistic Medicine where the whole patient is evaluated (complete history and physical exam), not just a single symptom or disease.
We believe this approach is more likely to result in a positive outcome, because it is often the case that what appears to be affecting only a small part of the patient is in reality affecting many parts of the patient.
As part of the holistic medicine that we practice, Dr. Michelle Schraeder can also include Alternative and Complementary Therapies in your pet's treatment.

Senior Care
Report
As pets age, they become much more susceptible to conditions that can affect their health, impact their quality of life, and cause them pain and discomfort.
Every pet should receive regular veterinary examinations, but many abnormalities that affect older pets cannot be detected on routine physical exams.
Not everything is as obvious as the graying muzzle on our friend in the picture below.
For this reason, we offer a Comprehensive Health Screening for older pets, designed to identify diseases that may be lurking beneath the surface.

Petfood and Supplies
Report
Mountain Veterinary Hospital carries two brands of premium quality petfoods which are reasonably priced.
One is called Chicken Soup (guess what its primary ingredient is), and the other is called Taste of the Wild, and is made from bison, venison, salmon, and other ingedients your pet will find hard to resist.
Both of these lines of petfood are formulated with the health of your pet in mind.
Taste of the Wild is grain free.
We encourage you to compare the ingredients of the petfood you are presently feeding with the ingredients of Chicken Soup and Taste of the Wild.
