Marion Animal Hospital was established in 1970 by Dr. Robert Fanton, at its current location of 448 7th Avenue.
Dr. Fanton did both small animal medicine and some equine work.
The practice was purchased in 1983 by Dr. Marvin Schmitt.
Dr. Schmitt discontinued equine work to focus on small animal medicine.
Dr. Schmitt owned the practice for 21 years and sold it in 2004, so that he could start enjoying retirement.
Dr. Ryan Bock purchased the practice at that time, and has owned it since.
The practice has been totally remodeled during Dr. Bock's ownership but continues to have the "at home" feel that drew him to purchase the practice in 2004.
Dr. Fanton did both small animal medicine and some equine work.

Dr. Ryan Bock grew up on a dairy farm in Missouri and owes a lot of his love of animals to his family, especially his grandmother, who started the family in the dairy business.
He did his undergraduate work achieving a Bachelor of Science degree at College of the Ozarks, a small college in southwestern Missouri.
Dr. Bock then went to Veterinary School at the University of Missouri, and graduated with a DVM degree in 2001.
Dr. Bock first practiced in Mediapolis, IA, in a mixed (large and small) animal clinic for 3 years, before purchasing Marion Animal Hospital in 2004.
