Horses can encounter health issues just as all of us can.
Fortunately, the great majority of these issues can be evaluated and treated by your equine veterinarian; Dr. Griffin can provide that kind of care.
Dr. Griffin recommends, as does the AAEP, a group of core vaccines.
In addition to the core vaccines of Eastern/Western Encephalomyelitis, Rabies, Tetanus, and West Nile Virus, Dr. Griffin also recommends vaccinating for Herpes (Rhino) and Influenza.
Horses' teeth also require regular evaluation and treatment.

Vaccines
Report
Here at Southern Illinois Equine Clinic, Dr. Griffin is dedicated to protecting your horse's health by offering vaccinations.
Many different types of vaccinations are available for horses.
Since every horse has a different lifestyle, it is important to discuss vaccinations with us.
Some horses travel and are surrounded by lots of other horses while others simply stay at home.
Your horse may need certain vaccinations due to where they live.
There are many diseases that are more prevalent in certain areas.
Lameness
Report
Lameness can stem from hoof inflammation, fractured bones, injured muscles, tendons, or ligaments.
Injury, overwork, inadequate conditioning, and poor footing can all cause problems that can lead to lameness.
There are also inflammatory, neurological, and infectious diseases that can cause lameness.
It is important to notice the signs of lameness promptly and to engage the help of your veterinarian right away.
Your equine veterinarian will have their own unique method of evaluating lameness.
Dr. Griffin may watch your horse walk, trot, canter, or on a lunge line in order to evaluate your horse for lameness.
Dental
Report
As a horse owner or someone who works with horses, it is important to be able to recognize signs of dental pathology, so that your horse is able to eat and work comfortably.
Some of the clinical signs your horse may show when they have a dental problem include reluctance to eat, pain while chewing, dropping food, quidding, and excess salivation.
Occasionally they may have swelling to the jaw, a foul odor to their breath and nasal drainage.
These signs may indicate a tooth root infection.
If you see any of these signs your horse should be evaluated by your veterinarian.
