Dr. Pieper, "The Doc, " was born in Newington, Connecticut and was raised on a dairy farm.
He graduated from Hartford High School in 1928 and the New York State Veterinary College at Cornell University in 1932.
He returned to Connecticut to open his private practice in 1933, catering to animals both large and small.
He took a leave of absence from his Middletown practice for four years to serve as a major in the Army Veterinary Corps Service Command in New England, at which time he received a commendation medal for outstanding service.

Handling an Injured Pet

Under ordinary circumstances, your pet may be a very calm, docile individual.
However, when experiencing pain or fear, even the most placid animal may bite or scratch unexpectedly.
It is always best to use caution when handling and transporting an injured pet, even if you doubt they would ever hurt you.
Use a blanket to wrap your pet.
This will minimize your pet's ability to struggle, scratch or bite, and may also serve to calm them by limiting their vision.
If you are comfortable applying a muzzle to your pet, it is recommended to do so before attempting to move them if they are injured.
However, when experiencing pain or fear, even the most placid animal may bite or scratch unexpectedly.

First time seizures, seizures lasting more than three minutes, multiple seizures in a short time.
