Cheaha Animal Hospital, located in Oxford, Alabama, has been providing compassionate veterinary medical services to our patients since 1977. Our veterinary doctors, technician team, and kennel staff practice the highest standard of veterinary medicine. Our goal is to deliver a great experience to every pet and pet owner. My families new Veterinarian, I think they did a very thorough job in diagnosing and treating our pet.

Also appreciate the thorough explanation by the Vet and staff. Went in to have our dog spayed. Took a minute to see the doc afterward, but our sweet girl was ready and feeling 100% in no time.
Services
Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth.
We use state-of-the-art high speed ultrasonic units to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line.
Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup.
One of our doctors will preform a full dental exam and any extractions that may be needed.
We are equipped to take x-rays of any sized animal.
In addition, we are able to perform radiographic contrast studies, such as barium studies, cystograms, and intravenous pyelograms.
Studies show that up to 85% of dogs and cats over the age of four suffer from periodontal disease.
Periodontal disease occurs when plaque and bacteria form around the gumline.
Some of the signs to look for is bad breath, bleeding gums or red gums or brown deposits on teeth (plaque).
If you notice any of these signs schedule an oral examination with one of our veterinarians.
As pet owners, some of the most stressful times can happen when our pets are sick.
At Cheaha Animal Hospital we utilize a broad range of advanced diagnostic tests to better manage the health of our patients.
Our in-house lab provides fast and accurate test results including serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing.
We also send out bloodwork to a commercial veterinary lab for specialized diagnostics and consultations.
New puppies and kittens are charged a one-time puppy/kitten exam on the first visit.
Booster visits are not charged an exam fee, even though your pet will still get a brief exam and you will be educated on what to expect at their age.
You may discuss any concerns you have with the veterinarian as well.
Puppies need a distemper/parvo vaccine starting at six weeks of age.
That vaccine will need to be boostered at nine weeks, 12 weeks, 16 weeks and 20 weeks.
A rabies vaccine will be administered at the 12 week check-up and Bordatella will be given at the 20 week check-up.
According to a recent report released by the American Humane Society, animal shelters across the country euthanize 2.4 million healthy dogs and cats each year due to pet overpopulation.
No one steps forward to adopt these animals in the organization's time limit and a staff member has to euthanize him or her to make room for other homeless pets.
This equates to one healthy animal losing his or her life every 13 seconds in America alone.
While this is a sad and frustrating statistic, it's also preventable with spay or neuter surgery.
